I find it interesting that it's a phenomen unique to institutionalized heterosexual marriage, but doesn't occur in long-term relationships.
But marriage IS a patriarchal concept, basically invented so the man has control over the woman('s vagina and uterus) as his legal posession.
So I'm not that surprised that men still benefit the most, while the majority of divorces get initiated by the women.
The high divorce rates are actually a good thing. They don't mean that people can't commit any longer boohoo lost traditional values yadda yadda, but that marriages are just as shitty as they have always been, but now women can finally break free when they realize that this deal sucks, after centuries of being stuck.
