Mini yarn hats

Almost every one of us has empty paper rolls at home. Shredding paper rolls is a great activity for gerbils and other rodents, but what can a human do with them?

Don't throw them away! You can make so many usefuls things of paper rolls. If you are still looking for a cute Christmas decoration, I've got the right thing for you. These little yarn hats can be hung up, placed and of course put on things. The good thing is, you don't need to know how to knit.

For this you need:

Thick wool
Scissor
Ruler
Pencil
And of course a paper roll

1) The base for the hat is a paper roll ring. The height is 1,8 cm. Mark the height on the roll with a pencil and ruler. Flat the roll slighty, that works better.

If you wanna make more hats, you can make more rings at this points. Depending on how long the roll is, it amounts to about 6 rings. Now cut the roll repeatedly.

2) Depending on how thick the woll is, we need about 25-30 threads. Each has a length of about 32 cm.

It's easier to measure and cut one piece and use this as a pattern for all the others.

3) Fold the thread that a loop is above and two ends below.

4) Put the loop through the ring.

5) Put the two ends through the loop.

6) Fix both ends.

Now the thread is knotted around the ring. Repeat this with the other threads...

...until the ring is full and no gaps visible.

Note that the knots are even, thus the loop is always around the threads on the inner site of the ring. Otherwise it looks odd when a knot falls out of line.

7) If you made this fiddly job, press the ends of the threads through the ring und pull them out on the other side. This way you won't see the knots anymore and everything gets more stable.

8) Take another thread and wrap it around the ends tightly to create a pom-pom. Fix it with a double knot.

9) If you are a barber or gardener, you'll be blessed in this step, because now the pom-pom needs to be trimmed round and small.

If you wanna hang the hats, you either take the thread that you just used to tie the threads or you use make sure that one thread is longer than the others while knotting in the beginning. You can then pull it out of the middle of the hat later and it won't hang crooked.

My thread is too short, but I didn't want to hang it anyway.

Tadaa

10) I like it better when you kinda detangle the threads from the pom-pom, so that they're decomposed into their fragments. This way the pom-pom will look much finer and you can trim it better.

That's it!

The hats are a cute decoration and they almost fit everything...

...and everyone.
